Lovely sunny afternoon today at Barrow Town FC who were hosting The FA's annual end-of-season tournament.
The tournament was played as a mini-league system.
The team consisted of Freddy, Zac, Olly, Vinnie, George, Harris, and Ezra. four games were played over a two-hour period and the boys did us proud.
I saw some fine runs, great passing, and fantastic tackles. Starting in goal were Freddy, Zac, and George each of them made fantastic saves and some daring dives to stop the oncoming attackers. Equally, they did long dropkicks out to get our players back on the go upfront.
Defensively Harris and Ezra made a lot of fine challenges and hard firm tackles, helping us retain the ball and often clearing play away.
Midfield was a combination of Zac and Vinnie who again showed fine tackling and fastballs forward, but equally attacked the play and dribbled forward to make some shots.
Upfront was Olly and George, they showed some fine one-two's, good crosses coupled with a few fast dribbling runs, and also several good goals were scored today. The boys showed that this is a good skeleton basis for a strong team to come as we transition to seven aside next season.
Nice to see lots of smiles all around and the kids enjoying a few difficult games regardless of the result. They seemed to love the medals at the end courtesy of the FA.
Full respect to Matt and the work he has been putting in this season with the assistance of Andy and Lee.
A big thanks to all our parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends who came along to support our team in their first-ever tournament, great result, and a great first season for this development squad, showing the true fighting ethos of Phoenix.
