A bit of a rainy day today as we head into our first home game of the season after securing a draw and a win for our first couple of games, we headed into the home tie against Stoke Golding with a determination to put our stake firmly into the ground for our title race.
After a shaky start we went down a goal within the first couple of minutes. Although a little shaken and carrying a few injured players still determined to give it their best shot.
We mounted a flurry of attacks on goal only to be met by a goalkeeper that one thought had glue on his gloves.
Not deterred we eventually got the equaliser 36 mins in from Ollie H bagging his first goal of his hatrick today.
A few minutes later in the 40th minute a great through ball saw Ollie H one on one with the goal keeper a gliding one just out of his reach to secure his second.
As the second half commenced we had to make a few changes to our defence and midfield to compensate for injuries.
Non the less 23 minutes in and the ball recoshed out to Olly S on the edge of the D for him to belt home a shot that nearly left a hole in the back of the net.
I have to say Stoke attempted to mount a come back rearranging their midfield to overload it. Thanks to our defenders Lucas, Josh, Matty and Aj
They were determined nothing was going to get through. It must be said Aj had a phenomenal game and was everywhere and put in a solid performance earning him a well deserved "Man of the Match" for today.
After 76 minutes Ollie H hit home his 3rd goal of the day from a dribble beating a few players and side footing it past the goalkeeper securing a comfortable 4-1 victory.
In goal once again Aiden stepped upto the plate showing he is giving his all to the position and doing it at a very high standard, so a massive thankyou to his commitment to the team for this.
In midfield and slightly changing the line Cameron filled the center even though he couldn't kick the ball due to injury he could still hold players up and play simple playoffs, Tom, Olly S and Evan had to work hard filling in as holding and also progressive front line. Unfortunately Tom picked up an injury and has a swollen ankle from a harsh tackle forcing him off for the final 20 mins.
Upfront Massimo, Finn and Ollie S all had a fantastic game with multiple attempts on goal and some strong forward play.
All in all a great wet game, I loved watching and being part of.
Phoenix put up a fight that was worthy of the victory and showed there true courage and commitment for their team.
Keep the fight going boys the improvements are starting to pay off.
