Award Day Fun

Tony Sparano

We certainly chose the right day this past Saturday, a warm bright sunny day and perfect for our Awards Picnic Day.

It was fantastic to see all the parents, families, and friends of the club all here to support us on this annual day of celebrations.

First up was the Under 9's team playing against their parents. The parents certainly didn't hold back they were passing and moving like a well-drilled team. Luckily for the children, their steam engines are newer and had the stamina to beat them in the end.

The children showed some lovely dribbling and fantastic movement they managed to get a late goal to secure a win.

Short break in play and a few drinks later to help rehydrate some of the parents, whilst the children went off to play on the bouncy castle and the parks recreation ground.

Up next was the Under 13's playing parents and friends, a little more of a competitive match with parents and friends out to prove they still have it. End-to-end excitement with Phoenix going up by a goal at halftime. Quick five-minute break and they were off with an early equalizer from the parents, the children were determined not to lose and mounted a flurry of attacks but it was just not their day to get one back, off a deflection the parents mounted a last-minute attack scoring a goal giving them the win of 2-1.

Another drink and fun break and then it was time for the Under 14's to take to the field, wow! this was a cracking game with none of the teams giving anything away. Last 3minutes of the game and a lovely run from the parents team dribbling by three players to belt home a lovely goal securing the 1-0 win.

Got to say the parents took the games a lot more seriously than the children did, leaving me to beg the question did they let them win, or was it, we are here for the fun and awards kinda day.

With all smiles and laughter from everyone involved they settled in for a picnic in the park followed by drinks, ice lollies, and the awards.

This year all the members of the team received an acrylic Phoenix mounted on a personally etched base, followed by photos.

We also managed to raise over £60 on the Tombola and a special personal donation from the Grandparents of Ollie and Tom.

All in all a wonderful day, I really enjoyed getting a chance to talk to parents and friends and seeing the children having fun and enjoying themselves.

A massive thank you to all involved in arranging the Awards Day. Thank you to all the Coaches, Matt, Andy, Ikki, Gus, and Nas for all their hard work and support. A huge thank you to our resident linesman, Danny and to Mo who has stepped in recently. Finally a huge thank you to all our club members and supporters who help support the club throughout the year.
