Cloudy start to our matchday today, but the sun payed a visit just as we kicked off.
A solid start with a good strong formation to take on FC Burbage. The match was evenly paced for the first 10 minutes, but Burbage hit with an early goal, catching us out with a high bouncing ball inching off our goalkeepers finger tips hitting the cross bar and crossing the line.
Phoenix hit back with a barrage of attacks and on the 25th minute got the equaliser they deserved. A cross from a battling AJ finding Dan on the edge of the box with a gentle first touch to line it up and striking with full force into the back of the net.
As the second half started we were feeling confident and it showed as once again we had a succession of attempts on goal but our finishing was a little off.
Burbage took the lead from a counter attack and an undeniably great strike from their centre forward.
Not deterred, Phoenix were determined to gain an equaliser. Then from a corner kick that bounced off the frontpost defender finding Tom showing great reflexes managing to side clip it into the back of the net.
3 minutes left and the fight was still on, Phoenix were hungry for the win, another corner and a barrage of shots finding legs, hands and feet everywhere to stop the ball going in, luckily it eventually found its way to Dan to hit home the winner to push us to the top of the Division.
Fabulous bit of goalkeeping by Rocco today brilliant saves and fast balls out.
Once again some outstanding defensive work from Matty, Cam, Tom and Mass who seem to be gelling more and getting to grips with the offside rule more each week, but also providing some great balls forward.
Working very hard in midfield today were Osayd Charlie, AJ and Evan, who put together some fantastic one twos and forward balls, but equally tracking back to help defensively.
In center forward position Dan had a great day attacking every ball put his way.
Great result in the end putting us top of our division with a game in hand still.
A huge well done boys, the past few games has showed us that if we fight to the very end anything is achievable.
A big thanks to our resident linesman Danny today and a special mention to our superfan who can't get to games at the moment, John Gibson.
