Phoenix army grit.

Tony Sparano

Sunny Sunday today, with our boys away to Mountsorrel Juniors. The boys were a little nervous with four of our regular players off for half term holidays.

Mountsorrel were on form playing a tight midfield formation leaving us struggling in the first half going a goal down just before half time.

At halftime we changed our midfield formation and played a higher defensive line giving us a little more body to our shape.

5 minutes in we went down by another goal, strangely this did not deter our boys in any way at all.

Four minutes later a free kick from the right floated in by Lucas found Jack who comfortably burried into the right corner. Our comeback fight was on.

A lot of battling accross the pitch ensued and our boys had started to find their passing power, some nice movement on and off the ball. Dan hit the crossbar Siyam hit the post and handful of saves by the goalkeeper.

Eventually from some great forceful play from Hamed and Siyam on the right it led to them putting in a cross just missing Jacks head but on the back post was our game changer Billy to tap in our equaliser.

Great defensive play from Cameron, Lucas, Tom and Aj there hard work led to Aj making a long ball up to Hamed on the right switching play accross to Mass on the left pushing the ball forward to Olly then finding a through ball to Siyam who fed a ball in between the defenders to find Jack running onto it and tucking home the winner.

Some excellent saves from Harvey today and good performances from new boys Oscar and Hamed.

A big Congratulations to Billy bagging his first goal for the team today.

All in all a good hard fought win today, the boys never gave up and came out fighting in the second half showing the Phoenix army grit of fighting to the very end pays off.

I have a proud grin from ear to ear for this victory, today the boys work ethic was truly commendable.

Man of the match goes to Jack today, not just for his two goals, which were nice, but I found his determination and vocal work to his teammates and trecking back showed a good solid fighting spirit.

Thank you to Danny for linesman duties and huge thankyou to our wonderful family fan base.

I could hear you all today, it made me chuckle a few times.
