Phoenix U12's travelled to Harborough Town today, it was a beautiful bright morning just right for football.
A minutes silence was held in respect to Jordan who sadly passed away due to a freak accident whilst training last week.
The boys had the 'bit between their teeth' today knowing a win would help secure our title bid further.
Within seconds we mounted an attack leading to a full on attack from Finn, Dan, Aj all shooting and the ball deflecting out to find Evan on the edge of the box to smash home a perfect half volley leaving the goalkeeper picking the ball out of the back of the net.
The next 25 minutes were intense with total control of the game, we had shot after shot and could not find the back of the net. Frustrating for fans and players alike.
Dan, AJ, Charlie, Osayd, Finn and Evan all controlled the ball well and forced play and closed down beautifully to maintain the pressure. But Harborough defended in their droves not to go down anymore before halftime.
The second half was no different once the whistle blew we charged ahead only for Evan to get his second goal once again another quality finish.
Harborough had their moments with great runs on our left side both Massimo and Tom were challenged and forced to make some epic clearances. Cameron and Matty had a lot of work covering equally on our right with some explosive runs from Matty and Cameron, equally some strong tackling too but eventually Harborough broke through to tap in their first with two minutes to go.
Early on in the game we conceeded a penalty from a hand ball but an incredible fingertip save from Rocco pushed it out for a corner.
Rocco had an excellent game today with some trully excellent saves that were gamechanging.
Tom worked well pushing through to support the midfield resulting in some fine distance shots only to be denied by their goalkeeper.
I could see the work ethic in them today was so high, they know that winning our league division is within their grasp.
We have just gone 3 points clear with three games left to play.
If they keep this work ethic and commitment up they will win the League.
Well done boys great game the 2-1 win does not reflect the work you all put in today.
Thanks to Matt for stepping in as linesman today.
