Wow, What an action-packed Sunday of football today was. Kicking off the action was our Junior U9 team who took on Studs Juniors at our home ground at Towles Field, with an early kickoff time of 9.30 am the children were full of excitement and confidence entering into the quarter-finals of the Under 9's knockout competition.
A controlled approach was taken with a 1,3,2,1 lineup, the team had control of most of the play and dominated from the off, we closed down well and passed with good precision giving us an early lead. The opposition played well and by no means made it an easy task for the juniors to hit home three winning goals by Zac, George, and Ollie.
Some great teamwork with all players tackling well and closing down keeping the pressure up constantly.
Well done to all involved Semi Finals are next week which will be an away game.
Next up were our Under 13's who were away to Alexton & New Park's current League leaders. There was a little trepidation before the match began with several players being stricken by bugs this week, leaving us short on substitutes.
The game was very hard, with a lot of end-to-end action. Although the game didn't go our way, there were a lot of positives to take from the game.
The boys played with a lot of energy and showed some lovely tidy passing, we had quite a few chances on goal but this disciplined team was well-drilled and were determined to keep their lead at the top of the table.
Next week's quarter-finals of the Chaimans Cup is a home game against Dunton & Broughton with a 12,30 kick-off.
The Under 14s were in action away to Anstey Nomad Reds, one of our foes in the league. The team were keen to hold onto their current form and show we are back and we are here to win.
I must say quite an action-packed game it was too, we showed good domination in the first half with the ball barely leaving their half.
After 16 mins from a free kick from the right side 25 yards out, Siyam floated a cross in nicely which was headed home by Jack for his first goal since signing on a couple of weeks ago.
There were several attempts on goal with shots coming from all angles from Jack, Mass, Evan, Finn, Tom, Billy, AJ and Siyam.
It was very much a game dominated and fought by the midfield and attackers keeping the pressure up.
Strong play by Evan and Finn, battling for everything, Siyam showed good control of the midfield pushing forward consistently.
Billy and Olly showed good support along the right sideline putting in some vital passes.
Defensively outstanding on the handful of attacks against us, handled brilliantly by Matty, Lucas, Cameron,AJ and Tom.
In goal, Harvey made two fine saves and spent most of the time sunbathing with very little to do. HaHa
Early into the second half, Anstey managed an equalizer, but we took the game back to them and mounted a flurry of attacks only to be met by a strong defensive line and an agile goalkeeper. We were unlucky to get a goal disallowed, a penalty missed by the ref, and some extremely questionable offsides by their dubious linesman, which we almost expected as the last time we played they called 12 offsides.
All in all a good game with some stellar performances, a shame we didn't get the win but the development is coming and relationships are starting to get formed.
We showed good vision and strong tackling and good runs on and off the ball. This week's Man of the Match goes to Massimo for good positional play, helped support the midfield and front line, a few good crosses in, and a couple of shots on goal.
Next week we are home to Birstall United Juniors. 10.30 am Kick off.
A massive thank you to all our linesmen, helpers, and dedicated parents for all your support.
