Another Sunday and another beautiful sunny Autumn morning saw Phoenix at home taking on Thurlaston Magpies.
This was to be yet another gripping game with end to end action and we were certainly not disappointed.
Defenders Matty, Cameron, Luke, Jack, Aj and Mr Rennocks held firm and were put through their paces with Thurlaston trying to play the high ball and using the advantage of the wind in the second half. They had multiple attempts on goal, but lacked in their finishing. Our resident goalkeeper Rocco worked hard and made some epic saves, unfortunately on a 50/50 ball a penalty was awarded against him. A little dubious as we all saw ball contact first.
Although we had the majority of the chances their goalkeeper was on top form, he too was also making some incredible saves denying us of the final victory. We played some great tiki-taka fottball which led to two of our goals. Forwards Ollie and Dan are developing their partnership and are growing week on week. They were closely supported by Massimo, Finn, Osayd, Tom and Evan playing a tough midfield battle, yet making some incredible balls forward and great crosses into the goal area.
W saw 5 fantastic goals by Finn, Dan, Ollie, Tom and Evan that were all worthy of Match of the Days "Goal of the Month".
But equally Thurlaston hit five past us too.
All in all it was a tough game that we probably had the better of but it was not meant to be despite all of the work ethic.
The boys worked hard as usual and kept battling right to the final whistle, once again showing the Phoenix ethos of never give up, never give in.
Well done boys I applaud you, you all played fantastically.
